LFortran Compiles PRIMA: A Milestone Towards Beta Quality

In a significant milestone towards beta quality, LFortran has successfully compiled and executed the scientific software library PRIMA (libprima). This achievement brings its total number of third-party codes compiling to nine out of ten targeted ones. The primary focus now lies on transitioning from alpha to beta by prioritizing essential features based on their significance in supporting all language constructs used across these selected codes without modifications.

LFortran’s team plans next steps towards achieving this goal, including Fortran Package Manager (fpm), LAPACK, other listed codes under “Code to be Compiled,” and remaining parts of Fortran stdlib and SciPy. Once beta criteria are met with error-free execution across user code without issues but potentially containing some bugs, community collaboration will determine further steps for final release.

The project appreciates support from various sources such as Sovereign Tech Fund (STF), NumFOCUS, QuantStack, Google Summer of Code, John D Cook’s expertise on HIPAA deidentification techniques, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), GSI Technology Inc., GitHub contributors along with OpenCollective and NumFOCUS sponsors.
