Beyond improving performance through reduced disk seeks and increased bandwidth utilization, BSD FFS introduced several notable features in 1984. These enhancements aimed to facilitate better collaboration among users working on shared systems, unlocking new functionality while maintaining compatibility with traditional UNIX filesystems. However, limitations such as non-logging capabilities and scalability issues for high concurrency remained unaddressed until later advancements like SGI’s XFS in 1994.
